Apache Log Question...

Support section for FREESCO v0.3.x 3rd Party Packages

Postby Alanex » Thu Nov 13, 2008 5:52 pm

I currently have Apache running and open to the world! Yes, I know... unsecure and all that.

It's FREESCO v0.3.8
and Apache 1.3.27

Anyway, I have several curious individuals trying various files on my server to see if they exist. However, I'm curious about this one: - - [13/Nov/2008:08:26:44 +0000] "GET <a href='http://www.google.com/' target='_blank'>http://www.google.com/</a> HTTP/1.1" 200 2983

I know code 200 means it was successful, but How? Why? What is it they are doing?
It's an external IP (not mine and they shouldn't be on my server so it's pasted as is)

There are lots of similar entries from other IPs with various URLs which result in 404 code, but this one to google succeeds, but I don't completely understand what they're doing. Are they somehow using my server to obtain www.google.com?

The other entries include "OPTIONS * HTTP/1.0". What software do they use to issue the commands? I'd be interested to see what information is given out. I'd also like to control the "OPTIONS", I would assume the only option I need is GET? It's a fairly basic website but part of it uses .htpasswd & .htaccess

Thanks in advance,
