rrdtool for 04x

Postby dingetje » Tue Apr 05, 2011 4:49 pm

RRDtool is the OpenSource industry standard, high performance data logging and graphing system for time series data.

The package has been repackaged from my 03x package and fine tuned for 04x by Lightning himself, kudos!

The package can be installed with:
Code: Select all
pkg -i -/rrdtool_1.0.40_dingetje.pkg

For a demo page see my (still 03x  ) RRDtool page: http://dingetje.homeip.net/index.php?pid=11

Enjoy!

I can say there is nothing wrong with the package. However to probably resolve the problem in your case, reboot the machine and install it again. Also manually remove the temporary directory with

rm -rf /boot/26770~

Anything past the above is going to be a package support issue.

I rebooted the machine and re-installed and it fixed the problem .. :-)

However, the first time I ran it the demo screen complained that "eth0_rx.png" and "eth0_tx.png" were not writeable.

I needed a chmod 666 on these two to get it working.

Ok, I will update the package to use the writable files. This is not really a huge security risk with png images.

It might be nice to do the same for the "cpu" "mem" "misc" and "io" png files so that the "vmstat" demo works "out of the box" too :-)

... assuming you havent done it already ;-)

It's a bit strange, the 04x package has the same rights and owner for the www images as the 03x package.

03x:
Code: Select all
-rw-r--r--   1 nobody          root             1912 Dec  8  2002 cpu.png
-rw-r--r--   1 nobody          root             2142 Dec  8  2002 eth0_rx.png
-rw-r--r--   1 nobody          root             2299 Dec  8  2002 eth0_tx.png
-rw-r--r--   1 nobody          root             2295 Dec  8  2002 io.png
-rw-r--r--   1 nobody          root             2641 Dec  8  2002 mem.png
-rw-r--r--   1 nobody          root             2114 Dec  8  2002 misc.png

04x:
Code: Select all
drwxr-xr-x nobody/nobody     0 2002-12-08 00:33:50 www/rrdtool/demo/images/
-rw-rw-rw- nobody/root    2142 2002-12-08 00:51:42 www/rrdtool/demo/images/eth0_rx.png
-rw-rw-rw- nobody/root    2299 2002-12-08 00:51:42 www/rrdtool/demo/images/eth0_tx.png
-rw-r--r-- root/root       454 2002-12-07 01:37:34 www/rrdtool/demo/images/zertxtr.gif
-rw-r--r-- nobody/root    1912 2002-12-08 00:51:44 www/rrdtool/demo/images/cpu.png
-rw-r--r-- nobody/root    2641 2002-12-08 00:51:46 www/rrdtool/demo/images/mem.png
-rw-r--r-- nobody/root    2295 2002-12-08 00:51:46 www/rrdtool/demo/images/io.png

So to answer your question Bob (btw: thanks for beta testing!), as you can see the cpu, mem, io and misc images have not been made writable.

I don't remember (the last time I've edited the 03x package is from 2002, so I feel I cannot be blamed for not remembering  ) any problems with the rrdtool demo images not being writable by the web server. Of course the web server runs a user nobody, group nobody, so changing ownership to the correct group probably resolves this issue too.

I've tried to repair the flaw, but since I didn't repack the package myself, I had to try to re-do the steps taken by Lightning, but I hit a snag along the way (I guess I'm a bit rusty  ) so its probably easier if Lightning corrects this and repacks.

BTW: Lightning, how to force a renewal of the package on FREESCOSoft?

I sent you a PM dingetje as this post is sort of beyond package announcements at this point and could be moved to package support if it needs to continue.
