Shopping basket

3rd Party Package Requesting

Postby John S » Tue Sep 21, 2004 7:06 am

This the title says it all.
I have a friend setting up a web site and I have almost convinced him he should host it on his own box .. Me expounding the virtues of Freesco..

Problem is he want to sell things so needs a shopping basket system? I have had a hunt around FreescoSoft but have not found anything.

Just install Apache (you need to "upgrade" your kernel for that)
and then you could just use some PHP-ing I guess.
Experience shared, is experience gained.

You need to install:

- a PHP enabled webserver like Apache with PHP or thttpd+
- mySQL as database

A collegue of mine has just installed an open source (GNU license) PHP script called osCommerce on his FREESCO and this looks rather nice. Check it out at <a href='http://www.oscommerce.com/' target='_blank'>http://www.oscommerce.com/</a>

This is the friend now on line. Not sure if this should be in this or taken to a support forum.....

Been trying out John's box with Freeso 3.3 plus thttpd+_php-4.2.3_the.icy.k and mysql-3.23.37-lightning packages installed and tried to install OScommerce and get the following error straight up.
FATAL ERROR: register_globals is disabled in php.ini, please enable it!

dingetje any idea what your collegue was using as a server and version of PHP etc and any special setups required.

Also tried another one, Zen Chart . got a bit further with this one, but got the following alert up which needs to be cleared before continuing with its install.
Webserver = HTTP Host = 10.0.0.5
Path_Translated = /mnt/bootdev/router/www/zencart/zc_install/index.php
Register Globals = OFF
MySQL Support = ON
MySQL Version = 3.23.37
PHP Version = 4.2.3
PHP Safe Mode = OFF
PHP Sessions Support = ON
PHP Sessions.Save_Path = /tmp  -->Writeable
Suggested SQL Cache Folder = /mnt/bootdev/router/www/zencart/cache
PHP magic_quotes_runtime setting = OFF
PHP GD Support = ON
PHP ZLIB Compression Support = ON
PHP OpenSSL Support = ON
<span style='color:red'>PHP cURL Support = OFF</span>

The last line is the problem for Zen cart.

Suspect in both cases it is the PHP comilation that is the problem.
Can't attach a report but if needed let me know.
Regards

Maybe you should edit your php.ini?

But maybe you should install my Apache package instead. The PHP in my 1.3.27 package has support for cURL.

The downfall of Apache is that:
1) you'll need to upgrade your FREESCO kernel
2) your FREESCO box has to have at least 32Mb of RAM or better yet, use 64-256Mb.

I also suggest you install Turck MMCache which is a PHP cache and speeds up PHP pages considerably. This cache comes as an add-on package for 03x. See 3rd party release announcements. To operate with the cache, at least 64Mb RAM is required.
