Driver for AMD PCNet-Home 79C978A

3rd Party Package Requesting

Postby Abrarabas » Thu Aug 12, 2004 7:25 am

I have found out that neither Freesco's Linux kernel, nor the additional modules provide support for this chipset. The drivers that I found at <a href='http://www.amd.com/us-en/assets/content_type/utilities/pcnethme.tar' target='_blank'>www.amd.com</a> are compiled under Linux kernel 2.2.12-20, but I hope they can be also compiled for Freesco 033. Would somebody be so kind to check it and supply them? I need at least the phoneline connection to work, not the ethernet one.

If it is not possible, would I be cursing if I would state that maybe FloppyFW or BBI Agent would be a better solution for me?

Is there nobody out there that could compile the driver for the AMD 79C978 for me?

Or that could verify that it will not work?

[One more time:] The driver can be found here: <a href='http://www.amd.com/us-en/assets/content_type/utilities/pcnethme.tar' target='_blank'>http://www.amd.com/us-en/assets/content_ty...es/pcnethme.tar</a>

[edit]This request is for FREESCO 0.33[/edit]

I am more than willing to try and compile any driver for FREESCO. The problem is that the driver your links is to is already compiled for a 2.2.x kernel. So what is needed is the source code which will have a .c extension and usually a makefile, although the biggest need is the source file. I waded around AMD for a while and couldn't find it. But if you will provide a link to the source code I will give it a shot.
If you are afraid that you might make a mistake. The chances are high that you will never learn anything.

:blush1: Yeah... Sorry about that. I had been searching for them also, and in the readme file it said it should be recompiled if needed.

My guess is, they are either (A) not yet online, or (B ) compatible with the latest version of these: <a href='http://www.amd.com/us-en/assets/content_type/utilities/lrh_src.tar' target='_blank'>http://www.amd.com/us-en/assets/content_ty...ies/lrh_src.tar</a>

If the answer is B, then the big question is, are these the same version as the gzipped pcnet32.o in 'modules V0.3.3'?

I have send a request for the source files to AMD last week, but so far no answer.
