Their are new dx runtimes for those of you that happen to game on windows,
The reason I'm bothering with this new version is because it feels to me that their are big performance gains - or at least some really big bugs were fixed - which means MS is either unexpectedly dedicating effort in win XP, or their even beginning to backport dx10 to XP and those are some early side benefits.

Either way I'm guessing vista isn't doing so well...

Anyhow, heres a direct link just to feed the category req ;-)
<a href='http://download.microsoft.com/download/5/5/e/55ec0e96-a046-42c6-b6c8-2cd5742a073a/directx_jun2007_redist.exe' target='_blank'>http://download.microsoft.com/download/5/5...2007_redist.exe</a>

I get 5-15 fps gains on various games, but this is only on my very odd hw:
gforce 7600 agp (thats right, agp rules !)
nforce 2 board (did I stutter ?)
1500 mb ram 400mhz dual channel 500mb*3 (I'm really maxing the board)
2800 athlon amd processor (I know, thats just sad...)

Since this isn't exactly high-end and I doubt ms were thinking on this 5 year old when they made the improvements, I suppose the gains will be more noticeable on newer hw...

Their seem to be some 2d improvements too, but I didn't really benchmarked this, only noticed that their is no stuttering in dxdiag even when i'm having all kind of stuff running in the background (-possibly mem management improvements ? )...

Let me know if you feel any improvements too !!!

I guess that's why they advertise with:
"Halo 2, only for Windows Vista!!!!"
to get people to switch to Vista...

well, I'm not gonna switch anytime soon...

but thanx for the info here.

I'll see what happens on my

Asrock 939NF6G-VSTA
Amd Athlon 64 X2 4400+ (Dualcore)
2Gb DDR (4x 512Mb Dual-channel)
Geforce 6600GT, 512Mb DDR2 (Extreme edition) PCI-e
:) :)

ya, but they can do what ever they feel like with halo cause they already milked that cow with the xbox - so why not take a chance ? its not like they'll lose their investment ;-)
Besides, console to pc ports are usually the worst of the two...

P.S: nice specs, but you really could use a new adapter - my piece of pc manor is a living (-kinda dieing really, but will be doing so for probably 10 more years ;-) ) on just how important is the adapter alone - I play Company Of Heroes on that machine with all the settings up except the physics and the AA...
