Postby gateway1124 » Thu Jun 12, 2008 10:17 pm

Dear sirs:
Unlike before when I installed squid-2.5.s3-lightning, very fast maybe it takes only 30 seconds, BUT now it takes 1 day.. Where is the problem, is in my network or server in freesco squid. I already make some isolation like changing to NEW LAN Card, Hard Disk, Cable BUT still the problem exists. very SLOW.. I leave my pc whole night in the morning stil 50%..

please help

thank you

Where are you installing from ?

Because IF it happened to be my server at lewys-spot then you might have hit a time when there was some server issues and the download actually failed half way through. So my first recommendation is to try and install the package again. You can kill the old install process with CTRL+c
If you are afraid that you might make a mistake. The chances are high that you will never learn anything.

What does the system do after you get logged in ?

Also have you tried shutting down squid with

rc_squid stop

or going into the advanced package setup and disabling rc_squid and then rebooting and see how the system responds ?

Also what is the status of the CPU/memory on screen 7 "Alt+F7" ?

But in general I REALLY need a report.txt to give any more help with your system.

You have very high hard disk and eth0 activity - that could be hardware problems.

Just compare with couple another systems:

[root@Freesco] cat /proc/interrupts
0: 98003474 timer
1: 16 keyboard
2: 0 cascade

10: 1528526 3c509
11: 2245041 eth0

14: 6191816 + ide0

Configuration - Intel Pentum 75 MHz/32MB RAM/HDD 516MB/ISA 3C509/PCI RTL8139. Number of clients - 6

[root@Freesco] cat /proc/interrupts

Bad cabling, perhaps?

And didn't you say you had 256M RAM in this machine?:

Interupt 3 is a very bad choice for a PCI network card to use and it could lead to all kinds of various network issues. I recommend going into the BIOS and reserving IRQ 3 for legacy ISA so the machine will NOT use it for PCI devices.
If you are afraid that you might make a mistake. The chances are high that you will never learn anything.
