Apache Problem On 037

Support section for FREESCO v0.3.x 3rd Party Packages

Postby 30K » Sun Mar 11, 2007 6:45 am

Does anybody faced problem to install apache_1.3.27_dingetje on 037 on ext2? The problem is after apache install it didn't starts after reboot. But thttpd starts instead it. As I understand the problem is missing rc_httpd in /mnt/bootdev/router/pkg/rc directory. After I coppied rc_httpd from my another fressco box (036 on fat) to this directory - it's all became good, apache begin normally starts after reboot.
Sorry for my English :)

This is a problem with the Apache package which has been updated to fix this problem on some web sites. So if you will tell me where you installed it from we can get it updated on that web site as well.

Oh, thanks, but I don't remember where from I took this package (most likely from official mirror). I just downloaded it about year ago (in my early freesco period :)) and kept it locally on HDD all this time. So, I'll try to download it once more from official mirror. Thak you, Lightning.

I downloaded apache_1.3.27_dingetje today once more from <a href='http://www.FREESCOsoft.net/home/0.3.x/' target='_blank'>http://www.FREESCOsoft.net/home/0.3.x/</a> and the problem is still the same. ))
p.s. The same problem with package from Dingetje portal. I don't understand - this problem is only on ext2 fs?

I had notified Dingetje of the problem and the solution when 035 was released. But possibly in the transfer of files to the newer system he lost the change. I have a repaired version on my web site <a href='http://lewys-spot.dyndns.org/packages/0.3.x/' target='_blank'>http://lewys-spot.dyndns.org/packages/0.3.x/</a>

Which the change is VERY minor and just requires removing one line from the install script that moves the rc_httpd from the correct spot it starts in into the wrong spot of the /rc/ directory in 035+ systems and ithe change does not effect older versions of FREESCO either.

No, I didn't :)
Thanks, Lightning. For me I found decission (just coppied rc_httpd manually), but anybody can face this problem in future and will spend anytime to solve it.
Sorry for my English and thank you once more... :)

p.s. The new one is working fine. :)

Mea culpa! Mea maxima culpa! :(

I never got around to repackage my Apache package, so the change as reported by Lightning is silently ignored. Sorry!

I believe a similar fix is required for my LPRng package.

Hehe, it doesn't need a repackage. Just delete the one line from the postinstall script that moves it to the wrong place, because in the compressed tarball it is in the right place to start with.

Just replace standart kernel with <a href='http://lewys-spot.dyndns.org/kernels/kernel-037.vipc-ipsec' target='_blank'>this one</a>. Try to use the search button above how to do this.

Be VERY VERY very aware that the IPSEC kernel may NOT be stable and should NOT be used unless you REALLY need IPSEC support or your system is not mission critical and you are willing to run and test it. I truely do not recommend this kernel for most users. and there are LOTS of other kernels to choose from <a href='http://lewys-spot.dyndns.org/kernels/' target='_blank'>http://lewys-spot.dyndns.org/kernels/</a> and if the kernel you need is not there all that is required is to ask for one made with the options you need enabled. But in general almost all third party kernels have the VIPC support for Apache included.

Thanks, I didn't know this. Does the 037 kernel be right for 036 freesco?

the 035 kernel (without IPSec) equivalent works well..
