program to test latency

Postby syscon456 » Thu May 12, 2011 6:07 pm

What program can I use to test "latency" from the command line?
On Linux there is a program called "httping" but not sure if it is available with freeSCO.

I need to test the connection latency for my provider from computer connected to the "cable modem" directly and this is my box running freesco.
I could disconnect the box and connect the laptop but if I do that my provider will change my IP as I'm on dynamic IP.

The "ping" command is a built in function that will provide basic latency. However if you want to test latency to something like a web server then there is an add on application called hping2.
This is a package for the 0.3.x series created by Dingetje and I just packaged another version for the 0.4.x series that will be uploaded to FREESCOsoft within a few days. But you can install it from my server if you are running the 04x series and this post is in the wrong forum. If you are running the 03x series then you can get the other version from there.

03x series
Code: Select all
pkg -i http://www.freescosoft.com/0.3.x/hping2_rc3_dingetje

04x series
Code: Select all
pkg -i http://lewys-spot.dyndns.org/packages/0.4.x/hping2-2.0.0-rc3-lightning.pkg
If you are afraid that you might make a mistake. The chances are high that you will never learn anything.
