kernels

Announcements of packages that are now released.

Postby Lightning » Wed Feb 05, 2003 1:26 am

This package is designed for one purpose. To change the kernel. Currently there are a number of different kernels availible for 03x. This package can replace the kernel either on a floppy or on a hard drive. Some of the SCSI kernels require that files be deleted from a stock floppy before there is enough room for the kernel. What is recommended is to creat a stock floppy without anything extra installed. Then install this package with the kernel of your choosing. If it is a SCSI kernel then move it to a hard drive and reboot. After running on the SCSI drive make a new floppy and copy all of the deleted files back. Current kernels this package has, have SYS_VIPC and CDrom support built in and are 2.0.39 kernels using the patched Freesco kernel source.
Old IDE support. This covers quite a range of older types of hard drives. No extra's

SCSI AIC7xxxx, CDrom

SCSI AHA1740, CDrom

SCSI AHA1540, CDrom

Stock 031 with extra's

To install any of these kernels use

pkg -i -/kernels-1.0-lightning

The kernels package has been updated to fix a few typo's and to add a new kernel.

Stock 031 with extra's and PPtP masquerading.

This kernel should never be used if you are using a PPtP connection to your ISP.

To install the updated version from FREESCOsoft use.

pkg -i -/kernels-1.3-lightning

 Any hope of getting the .config file you used for v0.3.x kernels? or possibly for v0.2.7's kernel? I cannot find it anywhere. (Or maybe put it in the package you released?)
Thanks

I second that... having the .config files for each kernel wouldbe a nice touch...and very usefull when debugging posible problems.

All of the config files are in the FREESCO kernel source that has been placed at http://sourceforge.net/projects/freesco/ . Just click on "View all project files" to find it.

This package has been deleted from FREESCOsoft at my request.
This package was only built for a few specific versions and it was causing problems by users trying to use it in newer versions. The current package is made by Gnork and it is much more refined and capable of dealing with all of the versions and kernels. One place to get is at http://kernels.dontexist.net/

i hope i get the memory thing into the kernel.

What you need is VIPC and for 034 you can use any of the 032 kernels, NOT 033 kernels.
