Status beeps

I am running freesco on a headless system (no keyboard or monitor) in an office situation. If I turn off the sounds I have to open the web panel to see what the status is. If I turn on the sounds it's a lot more convenient, but I get complaints about the tunes. A set of very, very short beeps would be ideal. What I really need to know is when freesco has finished booting up and is ready to get that first packet that triggers the modem dialing out, when the dialout is complete and I have full connectivity to the internet, and when the connection is dropped.

If you want to change the tune to a beep or series of specific beeps it can be done quite easily. For help with how to change the tone and length of specici beeps use

beep --help

You then can edit the rc_main in the newip) section and find where it shows "play $NEWIP" and just change that to "beep -r3" for three short beeps or however you want it.
You also can change the /etc/ppp/ip-down script to do something different.

Of course depending on the version of FREESCO will effect what you have to do so these changes will survive a reboot.

The other option is to edit the /etc/music.cfg file and replace the NEWIP= with a different tune that is much shorter or custome make one that is only a few notes. For this type of change all that is required is to copy that file to /boot/etc/ in all versions of FREESCO.
